Well, break out your earbuds because we’ve gathered up a handful of quality podcasts created by survivors, with survivors, and for other survivors and professionals. Becoming HER features survivors’ stories each week, but between waiting for episodes, you can catch up on these other great podcasts! Each podcast encourages positivity and empowerment as well as promoting awareness and education. Happy healing and happy listening!
1. The Grass Gets Greener
This podcast focuses on the empowerment of those who experienced childhood abuse and trauma. Hosted by Melissa Wilson, the show’s goal is to encourage listeners through storytelling. A new guest is featured each week with advice and optimism to help listeners overcome past experiences and any accompanying, lingering effects. The podcast inspires and leaves listeners to believe in their own potential to create greener grass for themselves.
2. Everything is workable
This podcast examines how every experience, every situation, and every moment in life is an opportunity to work with our mind. The show’s host, Kaitlyn Hatch, speaks with a different guest each week. In May of 2019, she spoke with Stevie Croisant, the founder of We Are HER, about communities of healing. Another favorite episode is Self Discovery with Shay Huff (we love Shay!). Shay discusses her own story battling addiction and recovery.
3. The Other Side of Saved
This podcast shares the story of one man's healing journey after abuse and assault. He shares the tools, the support, and the lessons he learned along the way. Hosted by Nate Postlethwait, the host is vulnerable and open about his traumas, religion, and healing. We're huge supporters of Nate (you might recognize his name. He did a #survivortakeover on our Instagram account in January 2019). You can keep up with Nate’s latest work on his blog.
4. The Audacious Life
A podcast highlighting the testimonies of women who have removed themselves from emotionally abusive or controlling relationships. The Audacious Life is hosted by Stephani Roberts and aims to reach women in the middle of abusive relationships and influence listeners to turn their lives around. The podcast features a range of guest speakers including authors, life coaches, guides, and counselors that provide practical tips and advice for moving towards inner transformation and freedom.
5. We Are HER
Our very own podcast for and by survivors of abuse or assault to share their stories. Hosted by Emily Kempe, it features a conversation with a new survivor each week. The podcast focuses on the power of the individual narrative of each survivor. With aims to create a larger community around survivors as well as educate listeners, stories cover topics and journeys through stalking, childhood abuse, sexual assault, financial abuse, and more. Ultimately, healing and awareness for survivors and non-survivors are at the core of the show.
