Supporting Survivors Out of Crisis

At We Are HER, we believe that every survivor of domestic violence or sexual assault deserves more than just recovery; they deserve a path to healing, empowerment, and restoration. Our mission goes beyond crisis intervention – we're pioneering a new frontier of aftercare for survivors, and we need your support to continue our vital work.

We Are HER is not your typical nonprofit. We're a national organization fueled by the passion and dedication of survivors and allies from across the country. Our approach is unique because we recognize the gaps in the current ecosystem of care for survivors out of crisis. We don't just offer temporary solutions; we provide a holistic continuum of support that addresses the long-term needs of survivors.

The organization’s post-crisis services are unlike anything I have encountered.

It all started when…

We Are HER started on October 1, 2016, just six months after our founder Stevie Croisant left her abuser. As Stevie began her healing journey, she realized that sharing her story and connecting with other survivors was crucial to her recovery. She wanted other survivors to have the same opportunity to heal, so she started HER. Originally, HER started as a blog where survivors from across the country shared their stories anonymously.

HER’s reach grew bigger than Stevie imagined, and she knew she could do so much more.

In 2018, HER was granted its 501c3 status and began helping survivors heal after trauma through story sharing, community building, and education on healing after trauma.

HER’s goal is simple: to provide a community for survivors of domestic abuse or sexual assault to become healed, empowered, and restored.

HER wants to connect survivors everywhere and become a place survivors come to during their healing process.

The point of HER is for everyone to understand that no matter the caliber of the abuse, each survivor deserves healing and community. HER is a place of love and understanding.

HER OPERATES UNDER THREE PILLARS: STORY SHARING, COMMUNITY BUILDING, AND EDUCATION.

story sharing

Survivors can share their stories with us on our blog, podcast, or social media. Survivors who want to stay anonymous are always welcome to share their stories with us.

Community building

HER hosts monthly virtual and in-person events so survivors can connect with other survivors. Our biggest community-building program is our annual retreat, held every summer in Montana.

Education

Each month, we ask a survivor expert to host an educational event for the HER family. These experts host events or workshops on topics that help survivors heal after trauma.

We Are Her is providing so much support in an area that rarely gets talked about: long-term healing from interpersonal violence.

Who Are we?

It might be more helpful to share who we are not. We Are HER is not a source of therapy or counseling. We do not offer crisis intervention services.

We are a community. We offer services on trauma recovery for survivors who are ready for the next step in their healing journey. If you feel like you’re ready to continue healing and growing through facilitated connection, story sharing, or trauma recovery education opportunities, then We Are HER is a community for you!

HER’s Goals

  • Provide trauma recovery education

  • Offer opportunities for survivors to share their story

  • Facilitate communication and connections so survivors can build a supportive network for themselves

  • Provide opportunities for survivors to heal, feel empowered and become restored.

HER’s Values

  • Community and Connection: We show up with love to build an organization focused on community-centric values so survivors feel safe and cared for.

  • Safety and Equity: We are a community where survivors can feel safe, seen, held, heard, and allowed to be their whole authentic selves.

  • Curiosity and Growth: We allow for change, growth, and adaptability. We are open to learning. We are fluid. We ask meaningful questions and challenge the status quo. We have agency and enable others to have agency, too.

  • Inclusive and Intersectional: We believe all survivors deserve to find safety in our community. Our leadership team is focused on creating programs from an intersectional lens that allow survivors of all backgrounds to feel welcome and have their needs met.
