Sharing Your Survivor Story
Deciding to share your story can be one of the scariest parts of your healing journey, at least I know it was for me. There is a lot of fear and shame attached to being a survivor of abuse. When I decided to come forward with my story, I was always worried if I'd be believed or I felt embarrassed that I could let something like that happen to me. Sometimes even sharing my story in therapy didn't offer me the freedom I was looking for.
The day I chose to sit down and write out my full story for the HER blog, I felt a huge weight lifted off of me. Knowing that my truth was finally going to be out there alongside countless other survivors' truths where my abuser couldn't touch it is when I finally started to feel free.
I encourage everyone to consider sharing their story on the HER blog. It doesn't matter if you're a survivor or the loved one of a survivor, everyone is welcome here. You can share as much or as little as you want. You can also choose to remain anonymous, use a pseudonym, or if you feel comfortable enough, you can share your name. It's entirely your choice. It's true that shame dies when stories are told in safe places and I think everyone in this community is deserving of that.
All my HER love,
Maria
