Our Mission:
Heal. Empower. Restore.
We Are HER helps survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault become HER: healed, empowered, and restored.
We Are HER helps survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault become HER: healed, empowered, and restored.
HER operates under three pillars: story sharing, community building, and education.
Each month, we ask a survivor expert to host an educational event for the HER family. These experts host in-person events or webinars on topics that help survivors heal after trauma.
Survivors can share their stories with us on our blog, podcast, or social media. Survivors who want to stay anonymous are always welcome to share their stories.
Meeting other survivors is an important step of one’s healing journey. HER hosts monthly virtual and in-person events so survivors can connect with other survivors.
This is We Are HER, a podcast for survivors of abuse or assault to share their stories. Our host, Emily Kempe, has a conversation with a different survivor each week.
Founded in 2016, We Are HER provides an online community for survivors of domestic abuse or sexual assault to become healed, empowered, and restored. Through a wide variety of innovative, inclusive, and easily accessible platforms, HER has allowed hundreds of survivors a safe space to share their stories, and to be empowered by reading other survivor stories. This digital platform also allows us to reach many survivors who are unable or scared to seek services. Survivors tell us that sharing their stories with the HER community has served as an indispensable element of their healing process.
Founded in October of 2016, HER has grown from a blog where survivors could share their stories to a nonprofit serving survivors across the globe. We’re grateful for the international support we’ve received since our founding.
In 2023, our programming impacted over 100 survivors. From story-sharing opportunities, educational workshops (both in person and virtually), survivor meetups, and our annual retreat, together, we are impacting lives across the globe.
Our newest program — our Mental Health Scholarships — grew by 500% from 2022 to 2023 due to increased survivor need. We’re allocating our funds and growing because more and more survivors need our programs. Know that your donations are making life-changing differences for those in need.
Interested in helping HER? Our volunteers, interns, and donors come from all across the globe! We love partnering with kind people who have a passion for helping survivors. Here are a few ways you can get involved:
Are you a life coach, therapist, yoga instructor, or an expert in a field that helps trauma survivors? Then let’s partner! HER hosts events that help survivors Heal, Empower, and Restore themselves after trauma.
HER is always looking for marketing, design, and photography help. Our volunteers come from all over the world. If you’re a student looking for class credit, we offer up to three internships each semester.
Gifting to HER means you’re helping us reach more survivors. Donations in 2020 will go toward season 2 of our podcast, our 2020 Survivor Retreat, HER Out Loud chapters, educational events, and marketing materials.
