Who is Logan?
Who is Logan?
My name is Logan, but that is not the body’s name; the body, my body, our body. Logan shares a body with others. Others who were created out of fear and for survival. Survival; we’ve been surviving our life for the past twenty years.
Sometimes, explaining DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) is easiest done through metaphor. Our life is done through driving a bus, each of us take turns in different parts of the bus for different reasons. Maybe, one of us got overwhelmed while driving; saw something terrible, felt something terrible, someone else will take over the driving for a bit until another sees something on the road that interests them. It's a cycle, each of us taking a turn in the driver’s seat, maybe sitting in the passenger seat to observe, but not be in control. We work efficiently, some of us know about each other, others prefer to exist in solitude. Different ages, different parts, different genders, thoughts, ideas, goals. We are not one and we have survival to thank for that.
We survived a lot and if we didn't have each other, we wouldn't have survived any of it. For that, I thank everyone inside. Especially Logan, who has advocated for us in the worst of times. Logan wants to be the name of our writing because she has found ways to create connections, without connections externally, we would not have our support system. We have found solace in writing since the beginning of our survival. Writing will carry us to our thriving.
