Wash

"Water,
Water wash
Water wash over me,
Cool me down
Cool me down
Water,
Water leave
Water leave through the valleys you wore down
Wear me down"

Jack Garratt's words rise over the whir of the fans, above the haze.

I stand, face to the stream
letting the water run down my face
palms cupping my eyes
smoothing down my hair

Transforming into a butterfly on my collarbone
Thumbs fluttering
Tapping left, tapping right

All while letting the water course over me
Maybe I'm somewhere else in this dream

Sometimes it's all too much, but here I can breathe
I fold, backbone protruding into the cool enameled metal

Laying there, praying
praying
praying to the water
praying to the water to wash me
to cleanse me of him
so I can finally be free.
